Renaissance Square includes the adaptive reuse and historic preservation of the former St Mary’s School as well as the demolition of underutilized blighted structures to create opportunity for new construction on a nearby lot. The buildings will create 55 units of studio, on- and two -bedroom apartments, a community room, fitness center, management offices and ancillary spaces. The new construction will be wood-frame construction with masonry fire walls and a centrally-located elevator. Input from community stakeholders heavily impacted the design, including the parking lot, exterior materials and safety features. The site will accommodate required parking, a fenced outdoor play area and as the community will be smoke-free, the site will have a designated smoking station on a handicap accessible pathway. In the new construction, the majority of the apartments will have a private porch or balcony. All apartments will have ample storage. To encourage alternative transportation, the building will include secure, indoor bike storage for the residents and seek partnerships with the municipality’s transportation systems.
The buildings will each have interior corridors with secure access at building entrances. Energy efficiency and Green Building design requirements will be incorporated throughout the buildings including Energy Star appliances and fixtures.
